Benjamin J. Hinerfeld
About
Benjamin J. Hinerfield is focused in federal appellate matters of educational due process cases, and complex litigation, including claims arising under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related civil rights statutes.
Ben began practicing special education law as pro bono co-counsel with the Public Interest Law Center, an organization with which he continues to collaborate. He has since developed a broad practice representing clients across multiple jurisdictions, with experience in both administrative advocacy and federal court litigation.
Ben is licensed to practice law in Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and North Carolina. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; the Eastern, Northern, and Southern Districts of New York; the District of New Jersey; the District of Massachusetts; the Eastern District of Michigan; and the Southern District of Indiana. In addition, he is admitted to the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, and Ninth Circuits.
Ben earned his undergraduate degree from Vassar College, his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and a master’s degree in history from the University of Texas at Austin.
He is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA).
